My name is April and I live in Austin, TX. Several years ago I finally succumbed to the draw of clay and found my creative soulmate in pottery. I primarily do raku, which involves pulling the glazed pieces hot out of the kiln and catching them on fire before covering them, thereby reducing the oxygen and pulling in the fabulous colors into the glaze. The patterns you see in the glaze are the actual pattern of the flames. While I focus on hand-building, my Mom loves the wheel and throws pots. When I’m lucky she gives me a pot to finish off.
Of course, I can’t do it myself and my husband, Dave, is a willing assistant, even though he burned his arm hair off once (I told him to wear a long shirt and he didn’t listen!). Together we enjoy eating in all the local food establishments and just enjoying Austin in general.
In addition to pottery, I love reading, writing, swimming, bicycling, dancing, playing piano, cross-stitching and crafting in any form.
I ride in a bike group that calls itself “Bitches on Bikes”. We ride all over town and sometimes all the way from one end to the other, always stopping to eat great food and enjoy each other’s company.
I hope to journal my adventures living life to its fullest in the coolest city in Texas.
